Winter temperatures are soaring in the Arctic for the fourth winter in a row. The heat, accompanied by moist air, is entering the Arctic not only through the sector of the North Atlantic Ocean that lies between Greenland and Europe, as it has done in previous years, but is also coming from the North Pacific through the Bering Strait.

“We have seen winter warming events before, but they’re becoming more frequent and more intense,” said Alek Petty, a sea ice researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Scientists are waiting to see how much this heat wave will impact the wintertime sea ice maximum extent, which has been shrinking in the past decades and has hit record lows each of the past three years. The sea ice levels are already at record lows or near-record lows in several areas of the Arctic. Another exceptional event this winter is the opening up of the sea ice cover north of Greenland, releasing heat from the ocean to the atmosphere and making the sea ice more vulnerable to further melting.

“This is a region where we have the thickest multi-year sea ice and expect it to not be mobile, to be resilient,” Petty said. “But now this ice is moving pretty quickly, pushed by strong southerly winds and probably affected by the warm temperatures, too.”

  2. Hello Sha,
It is getting scary Sha. They have registered temperatures more than 50 degrees above normal. It doesn't even look like the Arctic any more. We are going to lose a lot of the Arctic species. They are so sensitive to temperature changes and changes in the ice sheets and floes. It's so sad. We have such beautiful wildlife in Northern Canada and Greenland, which is right off Canada's coast. To see them starve or drown or just die out and not be able to save them is very hard for the people who care.
The videos were very interesting. People seem to learn quicker from visual teaching. They believe what they see with their own eyes.
I'm proud of your work. You are a good knight.
    Love and a big hug

    1. PS: Mika sends kisses. She is a brave knight too. She tried to chase a couple of coy-wolves from our yard. She was protecting me.

    2. Aunt Jeannie ,
It is very scary , I notice changes in the weather and I am only 15 years old , I want to enjoy Mother Earth to see wonders of clear water , the coral reefs things people take for granted that they are ruining for future generations . We went to Vancouver Canada when Robert's daddy died it is not far from Seattle Washington , it was so beautiful , daddy say where Mr . Claude live it is very beautiful so green and lush , Daddy say Mr. Claude live in the same town as your daughter and not far from you , he said your winters was once cold as a rat's butt (daddy did not say rat's butt, you know what he said ).
people will look at videos because when some people read they have no understanding of what they read .
Thank you very much . Love you Aunt Jeannie

  3. Howdy sweet baby girl ,
There are people out there that is so misinform , (tree huggers as they call us and a few more unkind words) keep pounding away , maybe some will notice that the storms we are having now is the result of climate change ... any fool can see if they take off their blinders that the ice is melting , where the freezing temps are suppose to be they are having a heat wave , Your video is very good it speaks volumes of words if they take the time to view it .
Knight Sha , your daddy is learning you and the Knights very well .
I will have to tell Aunt Jeannie about your daddy going to Man's school .
    Love you baby girl .
    Mama

    1. Hi Mama ,
We know how misinform some of them are , we see them at the meetings , their children are beginning to make an impact on them by bringing them here , I do hope so .
A lady and her kids said they will start a movement for Climate change and would we speak there and help her . I told her this was what it was all about our family would be honored to help her . I asked daddy and uncle Jon they said sure ,
We are so thankful daddy take time with us it shows his love for us .
